Parents' Comments
Parent #1
The community is wonderfully down to earth. The teaching staff is especially caring to the students. The office staff is welcoming to parents. Highly recommended.

I have only commented on the Rainbow Room above, as my child is currently enrolled in it. I also only commented on my experience with this child. I feel that Merricat's is a wonderful preschool in many ways. It is warm and welcoming, and the Sunshine and Rainbow Rooms are delightful. However, the Friends Room was a disappointment to us in a variety of ways. The teachers were much less warm and enthusiastic, and we felt there was almost no communication with the parents unless you scheduled a meeting. For example, my son kept complaining about a certain child with whom he was having conflict, and I never felt like the issue was adequately addressed. In addition, I am surprised in retrospect that Merricat's, which provides services to children with various issues, did not 'catch' (or at least bring to our attention) the extent to which our older child's severe behavioral issues would affect his performance in primary school. These issues subsequently landed him in special ed after a spectacularly bad year in public school. The guidance we received in that case was too gentle. That said, we're much more careful to question any comments or recommendations to understand the reasoning behind them this time around.

The teachers are very aware of the children and how they interact. They are currently working on a friendship theme, how to be a good friend, etc.

Wise Words to Remind You to Watch the Amazing Show of Childhood
One of the most dog-eared and spine-cracked books on our Savvy Parenting Shelf is Wendy Mogel's The Blessing of a Skinned Knee . This month's look at the big picture of parenting and childhood prompted yet another return to the wisdom in Dr. Mogel's pages:
