Parents' Comments
Parent #1
We LOVE this school. The teachers and staff are great; the other kids are great; the parents are great. Weaknesses: parking is tough during pickup and dropoff on this small neighborhood street.

I think the director does an incredible job of hiring the best teachers, fund-raising, and the day-to-day running of the school. I haven't found that she communicates information about the children well to teachers, i.e., if parents inform the director about an issue with their child, the parents have to inform the teachers also, because the director is unlikely to pass the information along. The teachers are very available to parents, so that isn't a problem if you know.

Hanna Fenichel is an amazing preschool. My children love it and have been so comfortable there. It is a small, warm, safe place to send your children and I cannot imagine anything better.
Parent #5
Very close knit parent community. Children (and parents) develop friendships that last forever. Children learn to love school and feel safe in their environment. Their social skills are outstanding.
Parent #6
Very loving, nurturing, play-based environment. Hanna has a strong sense of community and the parents are very involved. Parents and students socialize frequently outside of school. The school does not normally mix the children's classes as they progress each year, the same class generally stays together and they become quite close. However, the children are very welcoming to new students. The school and property are quite small and old, but I have found it a perfect fit for my preschoolers. They do not feel overwhelmed. Positive Discipline is used and seems very effective. Play-based, but my child was very prepared for Kindergarten, both socially and academically. They learn a lot through play and the teachers do work with each child individually. There is a very low student to teacher ratio, so they get a lot of individualized attention.

Wise Words to Remind You to Watch the Amazing Show of Childhood
One of the most dog-eared and spine-cracked books on our Savvy Parenting Shelf is Wendy Mogel's The Blessing of a Skinned Knee . This month's look at the big picture of parenting and childhood prompted yet another return to the wisdom in Dr. Mogel's pages:
Montessori? Waldorf? Play-based?
What school type is right for your child? Is one model better than another? What does the research say?
