Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
We encourage the children to use their words and talk about their feelings and say what happened during an altercation. Sometimes a child needs to be separated from the group so he can calm down and think about the consequences of his inappropriate actions. We have a 'time out' chair in the nursery school .
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
Ask Child B how she feels about this. Accept her feelings . Encourage her to voice her feelings, whatever they are. Suggest she play with another child that day. Make sure to ask child A if she might play with Child B another day. Try to have the children say why they said such and such. What are the feelings behind the words?
