Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
One of the main objectives of FUM Preschool is to help children develop self-discipline. Our guidance techniques offer children
clear expectations and options to create a positive environment. To encourage this, we attempt to practice discipline
which:
ā?¢ shows each child understanding and patience.
ā?¢ redirects the child when necessary to another activity.
ā?¢ sets reasonable limits.
ā?¢ is consistent, loving and firm.
ā?¢ is individualized and consistent for each child.
ā?¢ is appropriate to the childā??s level of understanding; and
ā?¢ helps the child talk about misunderstandings rather than hurting another child.
ā?¢ is directed toward teaching the child acceptable behavior and self control.
A teacher may only use positive methods of discipline and guidance that encourage self-esteem, self-control, and self direction,
which include at least the following:
ā?¢ Using praise and encouragement of good behavior instead of focusing only upon unacceptable behavior;
ā?¢ Reminding a child of behavior expectations daily by using clear, positive statements;
ā?¢ Redirecting behavior using positive statements; and
ā?¢ Using brief supervised separation or time out from the group, when appropriate for the childā??s age and development,
which is limited to no more than one minute per year of the childā??s age.
