Discipline

OVERALL RATING (4.7) Four And Half Stars

Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline

Loving guidance. Diversion and distraction with safety first. Parental involvement and discussion as needed.

Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario

Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'

Tell all of the children that no one gets left out, and explain this could be hurtful to child B. Then find an activity for all three to play together.

Parents' Notes on Discipline, Health and Safety

Parent #1
great school. provided early intervention with attentional issues for my son.

Parent #2
The playground is quite new and is great. It is fenced in and offers a wide range of play structures for the children.

Parent #3
Because we are a coopertive, everyone knows everyone. Any unknown person is quickly identified and a parent will make sure that person is being helped.

I have never seen more pristinely clean classrooms. The room actually sparkles, it's so clean. Parents vacuum and clean the rooms every day.

Parent #4
Bowen has a wonderful outdoor space where they built their own private park. The kids play outside every day!

Parent #5
The facilities have never looked anything but clean to me and I'm someone who does pay attention to the little details like the sponges kept in the sinks in the classrooms as well as in the common kitchen always fresh...The fact that the children all use an anti-bacterial hand lotion upon entering the classroom has not only become a fun part of our morning routine but also help in keeping the germs at bay! Now as far as the outside playground... let's just say Who else has a pirate ship, a fire station(as my son calls the tower with stearing wheel in it) and the fastest spinnng tire swing in the city!

Parent #6
The play equipment on the playground is approximately 2-3 years old so it is in great condition. They have the ability to use their big room for active play if the weather is too cold for the kids to get outside.

Parent #7
Brand new playground.

Parent #8
Snack is provided by the parents. There are guidelines on healthy snacks but parents often bring things that I would prefer my child not to have (such as juice or chips).

Parent #9
Bowen has an amazing collectinon of age appropriate toys and games that rotate through the classrooms. The new playground is also a big plus.
