Parents at this school, on average, believe that conflicts between children:
...are handled extraordinarily well in a way that not only gives me confidence in the safety of my child but also reassures me that my child (and his/her peers) are learning the early skills needed to socialize effectively with one another

Director's Description to School's Approach to Discipline
Conflict resolution and redirection. We do not do 'time outs', they accomplish nothing.
Each teacher would use slightly different language, but would follow a 'conflict resolution' model and help the children to come up with a solution that pleases everyone. It is important that children felt heard and have their feelings validated. We work to give the children the tools to be able to articulate how they feel without hurting another person's feelings.
Director's Response to a Sample Discipline Scenario
Description of how teachers handle the following scenario: Child A and Child B are good friends and usually play together. One day, Child A decides to play with Child C and tells Child B, 'I don't want to play with you today. I'm playing with Child C instead.'
The teacher would bring child A & B together to share their feelings. The teacher would ask leading questions, such as "How do you feel when Child A says 'I don't want to play with you'?" Child B then shares their feelings with child A. Child A then has a turn to share their feelings. The teacher would then summarize the "problem" ask if they can think of solutions. The children might come up with ideas such as playing all together, or playing with each other later in the day or suggesting another friend to play with.

Food Allergies
- We do not allow certain foods in the classroom
- We ask parents to provide child-safe snacks for their allergic child
- We are a Nut-Free school. In addition, we have lists up all over the school so that everyone on staff knows each child and their food allergies/restrictions.
Medications
- We keep their medication on hand at all times
- We keep on hand prescription medication for our very allergic children, including inhalers and epipens. We may also administer antibiotics. All medication is kept in the office and parents must sign a release form.
