Teachers direct, redirect, and give group and individual lessons. However, each area of the classroom (math, language, science, practical life, art, seasonal) has materials available for the child to choose. Teachers are giving specific and individual lessons in math and language based on the individual child regardless of age.
Parents' Comments
Parent #1
Children have autonomy to choose what they will work on and can stay with a single activity as long as they need to during the 90 minute work cycle, or move rapidly from one activity to the next. Children are encouraged to choose work from all disciplines. Teachers instruct the children to work with the self-correcting Montessori materials. The lengthy work cycle helps the children develop longer attention spans and enables them to really pursue a task that interests them. annual materials nights give parents an opportunity to work with the materials and understand their purpose.
Parent #2
