Director's views on diversity:
Children are very receptive at an early age to begin to learn about traditions, cultures and languages that are unlike their own. One of the best ways to experience the diversity of our school community is for families to share their unique customs in the classrooms. In this way, children come to understand that though other people may be different, they are still just as special. Parents, and grandparents, are welcome to contribute their ideas so teachers can integrate them into their curriculum plans. Parents also assist with classroom field trips and can take part in all Parent Association events.

In addition, the School invites children's authors, who speak about the bookmaking process, provides specialized book fairs for the children and their families, with a focus on materials to nurture development and literacy classes for the children taught by Beginnings' teachers, some of whom hold Masters degrees in literature.

Beginnings is committed to research and training in infant, toddler and preschool development and education. The Founder, President and Director of Research and Training, Dr. Donna Housman, consults with the staff, professionals and families regarding child development and education as an on-going aspect of our program. the basic purpose of this training and consultation is to offer essential information about child development as a way to continually enhance program quality.

The School is a unique type of child and family educational and clinical support entity, requiring parental participation and providing skilled clinical psychological observations, recommendations and interventions regarding each individual child's growth. The School, functions as a natural laboratory school, with ongoing research on issues such as Separation and Attachment and provides training programs for faculty in order to keep abreast of current understandings of child development. The School also provides training and internships for students through its affiliation with Boston University Medical School, Department of Child Psychiatry and Child Development and other universities and colleges specializing in early childhood education.
